Al Bidyah Historic Masjid

A historic Masjid

Al Bidyah Masjid is an important tourist attraction point situated at the village ‘Al Bidyah’ part of northern emirate Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates. Day-to-day, the masjid is visited by many foreign and local tourists because of its historical importance and the rare architectural design! The radiocarbon analysis shows that the construction of the masjid may be as early as 1446 AD and it is built of stone, mud-bricks and is coated in many layers of white washed plaster. Architecturally, it’s distinctive structure and especially the roof, consisting of four pointed domes and supported by an internal pillar is unusual for religious architecture in the region. The prayer hall has small Mihrab and simple Minbar ideally constructed for Friday prayer. Al Bidyah masjid is somewhat unique in the emirates (states) of UAE and therefore it is one the icons of UAE’s culture and history. Geographically, the village ‘Al Bidyah’ is very close to the major tourist destination Kkorfakkan and to the village, just ten minutes drive from the beach.

The masjid's rehabilitation and restoration works were carried out by the Dubai Municipality in coordination with the Heritage and Archaeological Department of Fujairah. Later, his highness Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohd. Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member, Ruler of Fujairah has the favor to inaugurate Al Bidyah Masjid on the 10th of Muharram 1424 H. (13th of March 2003).
